Journey so far
With just Rs. 50,000/- cash in hand and owing a small property in Ghatkopar (East), Mumbai; the promoter Mr. Manoj D. Rakhasiya established a company as a proprietary concern in the name and fame of Manoj & Co. in February 1991 at its registered place of business as “Krishna Kunj, 140, Vallabh Baug Lane, Ghatkopar (East), Mumbai – 400 077”. It dealt with only retail products like cement, brick stones, quota stones, etc.
Within a few months, the company got registered as a dealer for Kajaria tiles. Along with it, as the local trend and demand for Marbles increased, the promoter also traded for marbles in local and eventually got famous as “Manoj Marble Wala” (Manoj the house for Marbles). As the trend shifted to Granites later-on a new trade for granites started-up and became stronger in local market from the same outlet.
Looking at the working nature and the fame enjoyed by him locally, fittings & fixtures manufacturers appointed Manoj & Co. as their registered dealer for Parryware products in 1998-99. Hence, setting-up of the first small depot in Ghatkopar (West) for stocking Parryware products and increasing the staff as helping hands it was a boon for his period that in the year 2000-01 became the 2nd highest sellers across India for Mumbai region in sales of Parryware products. This was the period that Manoj & Co. came into existence across Mumbai and giving a tough completion to its competitors across Mumbai.
Demand all of a sudden shifted to tiles; so, the promoter registered its company as partnership entity between him and his wife Mrs. Anjana M. Rakhasiya. De-registering Parryware dealership and registering itself with Varmora tiles manufacturers from Gujarat in 2004-2005, it again got a new boost as he and his team worked hard for the name and fame against its sales. Looking at the sincerity and dedication towards business, Varmora Company approached the promoter and offered the company to be a C&F agent for Varmora across Mumbai. Here, the stocking place needed to be expanded. So, setting up a new depot at Bhiwandi with just 3,000 Sq. Ft. in area was the next step.
Small and routine changes of working for other companies and handing almost every-thing got the promoter to think that he can work for himself than any other company. With this idea in mind, he registered his company as “Manoj & Co. Trading Pvt. Ltd.”, a small closely held joint stock company in the year 2006-07 and started his own imports from China in the year 2007-08 with just 2 containers to start with. It was during this time, when Government of India levied Anti-Dumping duty over Chinese Ceramic tiles. With this risk and demand of imported tiles in the market, he still did not drop the idea and pushed himself in for it. It was a success within a month and the roll-over started. This time, the name and fame as its brand “MCPL” got famous across India.
As the imported products are expensive than the local manufacturing products, the promoter then started his own designed products with monopoly from Gujarat manufacturers. Then MCPL’s range of products from its size, variation, etc. keeps on increasing till date.
Mumbai and small town in outskirts of Mumbai had its market saturated. To increase its sales output and concentrating in the potential parts of India, MCPL opened its 1st branch outside Mumbai and it was in Bangalore in the year 2009-10 with the same theme of products. With its success, MCPL then moved into Ahmedabad & Pune year after year.
Today, MCPL products can be found in the whole of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan& Madhya Pradesh with a target to cater the rest of India in the years to come.
